Editor Selection Policy

Purpose

This policy outlines the transparent, merit-based, and internationally-oriented process for the appointment of Editors and Editorial Board Members of the Journal of Biological and Allied Health Sciences (JBAHS). It is designed to ensure academic excellence, ethical integrity, global representation, and compliance with best practices as defined by COPE, Scopus, and Web of Science editorial standards.

  1. Principles of Editor Selection
  • Academic Excellence: Editors must have a strong publication record in reputable, peer-reviewed journals within the scope of the journal.
  • Editorial Experience: Preference is given to candidates with experience in peer review, editorial work, or journal management.
  • Ethical Integrity: All editors must comply with COPE’s Code of Conduct for Journal Editors and demonstrate adherence to ethical publishing practices.
  • Diversity and Inclusion: The journal seeks broad international representation across continents, disciplines, genders, and academic institutions.
  • Subject Expertise: Editors should have specialized knowledge relevant to the journal's thematic areas, including biological sciences, health sciences, and allied health fields.
  1. Editorial Positions and Roles
  • Editor-in-Chief
Provides strategic leadership, oversees the peer-review process, ensures quality control, and represents the journal globally.
  • Associate Editors / Section Editors
Manage the peer-review workflow for specific subject areas, recommend editorial decisions, and support the Editor-in-Chief.
  • Editorial Board Members
Advise on editorial policy, contribute to peer review, and support the journal's development and outreach.
  1. Selection and Appointment Process
  • Open Nomination or Invitation: Candidates may be nominated, apply directly, or be invited by the Editor-in-Chief and current board.
  • Review and Evaluation:
    • Assessed by a selection committee based on academic merit, editorial experience, ethical record, and international engagement.
    • Candidate profiles are verified using publication databases (Scopus, Web of Science, Google Scholar).
  • Approval and Onboarding:
    • Approved candidates receive a formal letter of appointment outlining roles, responsibilities, and term length.
    • All editors are required to sign an Editor’s Code of Conduct.
  1. Term Limits and Performance Review
  • Editors are appointed for a fixed term of 2–3 years, renewable based on performance.
  • Annual reviews are conducted to assess activity, responsiveness, adherence to ethical standards, and contribution to journal goals.
  • Editors failing to fulfill their duties may be relieved of their role upon review.
  1. Ethical Compliance and Conflict of Interest
  • All editors must disclose potential conflicts of interest upon appointment and during service.
  • Editors must recuse themselves from decisions where a conflict exists (e.g., submissions from their institution or collaborators).
  • All editorial activity must comply with COPE, ICMJE, and international ethical guidelines.
  1. International Alignment and Indexing Compliance

JBAHS is committed to building an editorial structure that meets the inclusion criteria for major academic indexing platforms, including:

  • Scopus: Editorial diversity, transparent peer review, regular publication, academic contribution.
  • Web of Science (ESCI): International editorial board, clear scope and aims, citation impact, peer review integrity.
  • COPE: Ethical publishing practices, handling of misconduct, clear authorship and conflict of interest policies.
  1. Continuous Improvement

To maintain competitiveness and international relevance, JBAHS periodically:

  • Reviews editorial board composition for balance and expertise.
  • Updates policies in response to changes in global publishing standards.
  • Seeks feedback from editors, reviewers, and authors to improve editorial processes.
